IRATA Rope Access Training Information

IRATA Rope Access Training Course Information

General Information

IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) is one of the world’s leading authorities on industrial rope access. It is an industrial rope access certification, recognised worldwide. With IRATA’s proven safety record and aim to promote and develop safe working systems whilst also supporting its member companies and technicians, IRATA certification puts new technicians on the safest path to a career in rope access. Vertical Services can provide the rope access training you need to gain IRATA certification.

For more details on IRATA check out their website at www.irata.org

New trainees wishing to participate require no prior industry experience. However, they must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age

  • Possess suitable attitude and respect for working at heights

  • Be physically fit and free from any medical condition or disability that may prevent them from working safely

You will need to do a minimum of 4 days practical rope access training prior to your assessment. It must be understood that completion of the course does not a guarantee a job in the industry, and other skills or trades are important to finding regular work. Rope access is the means to access the work location and generally not the work itself.

For those of you revalidating your current IRATA level and holding an in-date certification, you must also complete the full 4 days of rope access training, utilising the time, knowledge and facilities available to you.

Individuals wishing to upgrade to the next IRATA level must have a minimum of 12 months and 1000 hours logged and signed off by an IRATA level 3 supervisor at your current level to be eligible. You must bring your valid, signed and up-to-date logbook on the first day of the rope access training course, making sure that it has been completed correctly. Persons seeking to upgrade must undergo a minimum of 4 days practical rope access training prior to assessment. For those looking to upgrade to level 3, it is now your employer’s responsibility to make sure you have a valid senior first aid certificate before you start level 3 duties on site.

There are new requirements for those operators who have let their competencies lapse. Information can be found on the IRATA web site: www.irata.org. Please be aware that there is no longer a ‘grace period’ as was the case previously.

All equipment and course materials will be provided. You will need to wear comfortable clothing and closed shoes.
